This reminds me of a Dallas Morning News blog post I read the other day about a kerfuffle involving the city of Houston sending out subpoenas for sermons by five pastors.

Seeking more info, I ran across this article. The Federalist is a right-wing website so I don’t really trust it, but at least the author didn’t sound like a raving lunatic.

I really don’t quire know what to make of it all, but one thing I am 100% certain of is that—should this end up in front of SCOTUS and they rule in favor of political speech by tax exempt organizations begin protected by the First Amendment—they’re going to be opening the door for any and all religions, including the ones they don’t like, to get involved.

I can’t help but wonder if they’ve thought about that. Perhaps they’re hoping they won’t have to worry about it if they can get in control of the government and change laws to favor Christianity…

Edit: Ugh, I see that the author of the article in The Federalist also writes for PJ Media: donotlink.com

Yep, I’ve seen that case as well, even Ted Cruz is stumping on it. I think that there’s some purposeful misinterpretation, and an error by the city’s attorneys that made the scope seem larger than it was.

First of all, there is a bit of confusion over the distinction between the sacrament of holy matrimony and the civil institution of marriage. But an even bigger degree of confusion between a Church and a for-profit entity.

Makes it easy to misrepresent the story here.

I’m not sure what you are trying to state here - can you be a bit more specific?
